TALKS – Autumn 2015 to Spring 2016

Monday 5th October 2015       ‘Plantsman’s Choice’   by Ben Potterton

Ben is the owner of Blacksmiths Cottage Nursery in Norfolk.  He will be using live plants for his talk, selected from his wonderful range of hardy perennials.  He was very popular when he came before.

Monday 2nd November 2015   ‘Plants for Shade’   by Colin Ward

You may remember Colin and his range of very unusual plants. We were all captivated by his selection from his nursery at Swines Farm. He will also use his plants for his talk.

Monday 7th December 2015     ‘Growing and Using Plants in Containers’   by Robin Carsberg

I quote from his handout   ‘This talk explores the wide range of containers available today and how to use them. Techniques for planting and growing good looking containers are discussed and how they can be used to transform both House and Garden is illustrated. Photographed at Hampton Court Flower Show and in the West Country, this covers the formal container, the informal and the unusual’.

Monday 1st February 2016     ‘Reading the Countryside’ by John Tyler

‘Learning more from a walk; what to look for and what it means.’   An unusual and interesting topic for what is sometimes a rather glum month!   A highly recommended speaker.

Monday 7th March 2016   ‘Orchid Mania – St Albans to Peru’ by Sandy Primrose

At one time, St Albans was a huge and important Orchid growing area. Apparently there were 4 acres of greenhouses in Camp Road. This speaker has a list of most unusual topics, but when I said where we were, he felt this was a ‘must have’.   I’ve heard him speak and I know how good he is. He gives all his fee to a Hospice – so generous.

The Talks are held at the Baptist Church, Sherwood Avenue, The Quadrant, Marshalswick AL4 9QL at 8.15pm. Visitors fee £3.
